Many seem to be starting to think that Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott will be playing the 2021 season under the team’s franchise tag, as the two sides come up on the one-year anniversary since contract negotiations began for a long-term extension. But legendary Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman told Yahoo Sports! Terez Paylor that he sees the two sides reaching a deal before next season starts. And if they don’t, Aikman doesn’t see Prescott staying in Dallas his entire career.
“I was surprised (a deal wasn’t reached). I really thought that they would have gotten a deal done a year ago,” Aikman said. “I bet that the Joneses wish that had of, too, because the price is up from where it was last year. I think they’ll get a deal done this year. I can’t imagine that Dak’s playing under the franchise tag again this year. If he is, then I have a hard time believing he’s going to finish his career with the Cowboys.
“I’m a huge fan of Dak’s, I’ve said it a lot. He’s a wonderful guy, he’s a great leader, a great teammate. In an era where a lot of guys say they’re all about winning, there’s very few that are, but he’s one of them. I’m hopeful that he gets a deal done and he’s wearing the star for the next 10, 15 years.”
If the two sides are unable to reach a deal and it does result in Prescott’s time as a Cowboy ending in the near future, it would be a rather unfortunate end to what started off as a promising career. After his memorable career at Mississippi State, Prescott was taken in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. Prescott was expected to back up Tony Romo , but after an injury to Romo, he became the starter moving forward and ran with the job, being the NFL Rookie of the Year and making two Pro Bowls in his first four seasons.
Going into the 2020 season, Prescott was playing on the team’s franchise tag after the two sides were unable to come to a long-term agreement in the summer of 2020. Prescott made $31.4 million this year and could make $37.7 million in 2021 if the team elects to use the tag on him once again. But based on what took place on the field this year without Prescott under center, it would seem likely that the Cowboys will push towards a deal.
The Cowboys’ struggles this season without Prescott — who missed nearly the entire season with an ankle injury — were apparent, as they went 6-10 and missed the playoffs. That, combined with his play on the field would make many believe he is more than deserving of an extension.
Troy Aikman Reveals His Pick For NFC East’s вЂBest’ Team.
On Sunday, three NFC East teams have the chance to win the division in the final game of the season.
The Dallas Cowboys face off against the New York Giants, while the Washington Football Team takes on the Philadelphia Eagles. Washington wins the division with a win over Philadelphia.
However, if Washington loses, the Cowboys can win the division with a win over the Giants. New York, meanwhile can win the division with a Washington loss and a win over the Cowboys.
But which team is the best in the division? Well, if you ask a former Cowboys star, he’ll take his old team.
“I will say this. I have said it throughout the year. I do feel that the Cowboys are the best team in the division,” former Cowboys star quarterback Troy Aikman said.
“And some would say, вЂOk well who cares? What does that necessarily mean?’. Well what I think it means is that they could go into the post season, and they are capable. We know what they are on the offensive side of the ball, and the defense is playing better. They’re at least getting the takeaways and doing some of the things that they’ve had a hard time doing the last couple of years. And this team is capable, when they’re playing well, I think they’re capable of giving anybody a run.”
Dallas put together an impressive win over Philadelphia last weekend, outscoring the Eagles 34-3 after falling behind 17-3 in the first quarter.
The Cowboys have to hope the Eagles can defeat Washington and give Dallas a chance to win the division.

I love a good media squabble. Especially when I’m not involved in it. I’ll now try to address the latest one without landing in the crossfire.
It comes from Mike Silver of NFL Network and Troy Aikman of FOX. It was sparked by the Jared Goff trade from L.A. to Detroit.
In Silver’s Sunday item regarding the relief Goff feels in being traded by the Rams, Silver suggested that coach Sean McVay was criticizing Goff during FOX production meetings, and that Aikman passed along to the audience the things McVay was saying.
“Routinely trashed this season on FOX telecasts, specifically those with Troy Aikman as the lead analyst, Goff could reasonably assume that McVay’s words about his quarterback’s play in network production meetings were far from glowing,” Silver wrote.
Aikman responded with both barrels.
Aikman never addressed the core allegation from Camp Goff: That McVay said bad things about Goff during production meetings, and that Aikman repeated those criticisms on the air, without (as the convention mandates) mentioning McVay. Instead, Aikman went straight for the jugular.
And here’s where I’ll just end the post, in order to keep my jugular and all other arteries intact. At least for another day.

Troy Aikman is firing back after he was dragged in a recent article by NFL Network’s Michael Silver for criticizing Rams quarterback Jared Goff throughout the season.
The 54-year-old Cowboys legend joined Fox as an NFL game analyst shortly after his retirement in 2001 and quickly became part of its top booth.
“Unlike Michael Silver, I strive to be fair and balanced and do not have an agenda when doing my job,” Aikman told Sports Illustrated Monday on the “SI Media Podcast.” “The record will show that I have been a strong supporter of Jared Goff’s over the years. Unfortunately for the Los Angeles Rams and Jared Goff, he did not perform at his best in the games that I broadcasted this season and I’m confident Jared would be the first to agree.”
Silver’s piece was centered around Saturday’s blockbuster trade that sent 26-year-old Goff, two first-round picks and a third-round pick to the Lions in exchange for 32-year-old quarterback Matthew Stafford. The article defended Goff and seemed to point the finger at his fraying relationship with McVay, which he felt was amplified by the sportscaster.

After earning two Pro Bowl nominations in his first four seasons, Goff completed 67 percent of his passes for 3,952 yards, 20 touchdowns and 13 interceptions during 15 regular-season starts in 2020. His struggles caused palpable frustration within the organization, which ultimately precipitated Saturday’s trade.
“You know that Bill Belichick wants the game in Jared Goff’s hands,” Aikman said in December, via CBS Boston.
“Aikman feels almost uncomfortable giving credit to Jared Goff for literally not missing a snap after popping his thumb back into place,” ESPN’s Jeff Darlington tweeted in December. “Can’t understand his disdain for him. So bizarre.”
Aikman was far from the only one to call attention to the former Cal signal-caller’s backslide during his fifth year in the league. He added that criticizing players as a former player himself can be a difficult line to walk.

Quarterback Jared Goff is on his way to the Detroit Lions after the Los Angeles Rams traded him and three draft picks (including two future first-round selections) in exchange for Matthew Stafford.

Larry Brown Sports highlighted several examples of Aikman criticizing Goff on-air during the Rams’ Week 16 game at Seattle that came off as rather harsh.

To be fair, TV analysts use what they learn in production meetings with coaches and players to inform their commentary. That’s the purpose of those meetings. It’s not a criticism of Aikman. And according to Silver’s report, Goff likely wasn’t aware of what Aikman was saying. But it’s also reasonable to assume that Aikman could have been going off what he heard from McVay.

The 2020 season indeed wasn’t one of Goff’s best. His 20 touchdown passes were the lowest total among his four seasons as a starter, as was his average of 7.2 yards per attempt. His 13 interceptions was the second-highest total during that span and he ranked 23rd in Quarterback Rating among his peers. But despite dealing with a thumb injury, Goff still threw for nearly 4,000 yards.
Yet Goff probably didn’t need to hear Aikman’s analysis to know what his coach thought about him. After all, he got direct feedback from McVay and the coach’s feelings were probably apparent.
“I’m just excited to be somewhere that I know wants me and appreciates me,” Goff told Silver. “I’m moving forward and couldn’t be more excited to build a winner [in Detroit]. I’m excited about Dan [Campbell] and the whole staff.”
On the bright side, Aikman probably won’t do many Lions games in upcoming seasons. Maybe Detroit’s annual Thanksgiving game, if that ends up on Fox. We’ll have to listen for any change in Aikman’s analysis of Goff and whether or not Lions head coach Dan Campbell or offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn have more positive assessments of the quarterback.
